A Timeline Of MySpace, Your Ex-Social Medium

If you aren’t that young, or you didn’t browse the internet that much a decade ago, chances are that you remember the time when MySpace was the most popular social network platform. However, it didn’t manage to live up to its hype, and its huge popularity decreased rapidly.

MySpace is still considered dead and gone for many people, but in recent years, MySpace has shown some hints of life, or even something more promising. Here’s a brief look at MySpace’s beginning, the rise, fall, and possible resurrection.

2003

In 2003, a group of employees of a marketing company called eUniverse (Intermix Media) saw potential in the future of the social network market. It was originally intended to be a side-project.

August: the group decides to create a similar network, by mimicking Friendster’s features, which was widely popular in the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore. In just 10 days, the first version of MySpace was ready to launch.

Some of the founding members of MySpace were Tom Anderson, who became president of MySpace, Chris DeWolfe, who became CEO, Josh Berman, and Brad Greenspan (eUniverse’s founder, chairman, and CEO)

There were suggestions that MySpace would charge a fee for its basic services, however, Brad Greenspan rejected the idea…
